Legendre UK improves compliance, efficiency, and transparency on their Shorts Gardens project with Oculo
Legendre UK first piloted Oculo on the Shorts Gardens project in Central London. This complex refurbishment project involved converting an existing historical building into office space, with a two-story extension on top, alongside the redevelopment of a double-story basement. Having found that the implementation of Oculo resulted in significant time and financial savings, they are now rolling Oculo out to several other projects, with a view to standardise across all future projects.

Now that I am used to it, I’m not sure I would want to do a site without Oculo. It’s definitely the future.

Introduction
Groupe Legendre, a major player in the construction, real estate, and energy sectors in France, has established itself as a leader since 1946. With a workforce of 2,500 direct employees and a €1 billion turnover, Legendre remains a family-owned business, constantly innovating and expanding. In 2016, Legendre UK was the first overseas branch of the Group, solidifying its presence in the competitive UK market.
Legendre UK first piloted Oculo on the Shorts Gardens project in Central London. This complex refurbishment project involved converting an existing historical building into office space, with a two-story extension on top, alongside the redevelopment of a double-story basement. Additionally, a neighbouring second building was turned into four high-end apartments with commercial space on a mezzanine floor. Given the site's proximity to the Elizabeth Line tunnel, multiple party walls, and narrow surrounding streets, the project was technically challenging and complex.
The Innovation
The project team at Legendre UK needed a tool to quickly and accurately document each construction stage. The goal was to streamline communication between the site and the office, ensuring that project managers, engineers, and quantity surveyors had up-to-date views of on-site conditions.
Using 360 cameras, the team could easily capture site conditions by recording regular video walks and uploading them to Oculo’s cloud-based platform. This allowed them to document ongoing works several times a week, providing immediate access to the latest conditions. It also enabled seamless coordination with subcontractors and comparison of as-built conditions against the models. The comprehensive photographic evidence also served as a valuable reference in case of disputes.
We quickly realised it was a great tool. We saved a lot of time from going into the office, and it provided a better and more accurate representation of progress and installed items.

The Implementation
Oculo worked closely with Legendre UK to define specific use cases and train users on capturing scans and utilising the platform effectively. Initially, there were challenges related to image quality and location tagging, but dedicated support from Oculo ensured that these issues were swiftly addressed.
Oculo has lived up to its potential. Once we got the process down, it became a routine, and it’s been a massive improvement compared to what we used before.

Value
The implementation of Oculo resulted in significant time savings, particularly in travel between the site and the office and documenting site conditions. The platform's use in coordinating works with contractors also led to increased efficiency.
Each time we avoided unnecessary wall removal by accurately locating valves and pipes, we can save thousands of pounds.
We saved 30 minutes to an hour each day by using Oculo instead of traditional photo capture.

Conclusion
Oculo has improved compliance, efficiency, and transparency on the Shorts Gardens project.
Knowing that you have it, you approach discussions with a much more robust and confident mindset because you know there’s a picture that nobody can argue with.

As a result of the successful pilot at Shorts Gardens, Legendre UK plans to roll out Oculo across several new projects. The team is also considering standardising the tool across all future projects, recognising the significant benefits it brings in terms of efficiency, dispute resolution, and project management.
