The use of 360° cameras captures complete panoramic images of the environment, allowing site managers and stakeholders to navigate construction sites virtually as if they were physically present. The technology is easy to use—a site manager records a single video during a site walk-through and uploads it to Oculo’s cloud-based platform. The video is then transformed by Oculo’s AI into a highly navigable 360-degree tour of each step on the site, mapped onto the floor plan.

This reduces the need for on-site visits, cuts down travel times, and minimizes emissions. The recordings allow for virtual site inspections and the ability to review earlier construction phases at any time. When a corresponding 3D model is available, each recorded 360-degree scene can be compared with the same viewpoint in the model, which can be useful for verifying built details.

Implementation

Since the end of 2023, M&P has been using the Oculo platform for construction progress monitoring with 360° recordings and has deployed the solution on over 10 construction sites so far. Initially, Oculo was introduced to support LP 8 - Construction Supervision. Due to its intuitive operation, all employees quickly adopted it. Other departments have also shown interest in the application, leading to its company-wide use, for instance, in Technical Due Diligence or Energy Consulting. Oculo also allows for a comprehensive inventory to be conducted without immediately having to decide which aspects are particularly relevant on-site. Thus, aspects that seemed less important during an inspection can be considered later.
